Have you ever heard the phrase, “What God has brought together, let no man put asunder”
It’s a saying that’s been echoed in countless weddings and religious gatherings, but let’s pause for a moment and think about its implications.
How many people have suffered, even lost their lives, clinging to this belief? How many have stayed in toxic, abusive relationships, believing that leaving would somehow go against God’s will?
I’ve lost personal friends—yes, friends—who endured years of domestic violence because they believed they had to stay, that they couldn’t leave because “let no man put asunder.” It’s a devastating reality, and one that we must confront head-on.
Then there’s the often-heard declaration: “God said he’s my husband” or “God said she’s my wife.” People stay in relationships where they’re mere shadows of themselves, where they barely survive, all because they believe it’s divine will. But here’s a question we need to ask: Is it really God speaking, or is it our own desires, fears, and insecurities masquerading as divine messages?
When someone tells me, “God said,” I don’t argue. Who am I to challenge someone’s spiritual experience? But I do ask this: How do you know? Are you sure it’s God, or could it be your own desires that you’ve repeated to yourself so often that they’ve become your reality? You start to dream about it, see it everywhere, even have others affirm it for you. But is that really divine confirmation, or is it just the power of your thoughts shaping your world?
I’ve seen too many people stay in terrible jobs, relationships, and situations because they believe “God said.”
But let’s take it a step further. Even if God did say it, does that mean you should be passive? Does it mean you should just sit back and expect everything to magically work out?
God says ask, seek, and knock. That implies action, responsibility, and the pursuit of knowledge.
We are not meant to be passive Christians or passive human beings. We can’t just sit back and wait for God to do everything. There’s a participation required from us. We must ask questions, seek knowledge, and knock on doors. We must actively pursue the life we want, not just wait for it to be handed to us on a silver platter.
So, if you’re in a relationship, job, or situation that’s breaking you down, please, “let man put asunder”. Your dignity, peace, and well-being are far more important than clinging to a misguided belief that staying in a harmful situation is what God wants for you.
It’s time to take action. Seek help, regain your dignity, and find the life you were truly meant to live. There’s a world of kind, loving people out there waiting to embrace you. Don’t let fear or misguided beliefs hold you back.
Remember, God is on your side, no matter what. You have the power to change your situation. Take that step today.
I hope you found inspiration in these words. Don’t just stop at reading—take action. Remember, I’m here as a sister and friend, ready to support you. Reach out if you need someone to talk to. Love and light.
