The Dos & Donts’ of Success

There’s no alternative to hard work, that’s for sure. However, is hard work alone adequate to make you successful?

Maybe or maybe not! Who’s to say?

Different standards and methods work for different people in this vastly populated world. Although hard work at some point played a pivotal role in shaping the future of every successful person, there are some other secrets they understood and implemented.

Amidst all definitions of SUCCESS, this definition, although simple, is the perfect one: SUCCESS is the accomplishment of an aim or purpose. The ability to see a task to the very end, is what success is. A lot of times, we do a lot of things expecting to be successful in them; but it cannot be success if that task is not accomplished or completed.

The Do’s and Don’ts of Success:

  1. Don’t undervalue your potential: You have an ocean full of potentials inside you, never make the mistake to undervalue your potential. The truth is that you’ve got everything it takes to be successful, but it will take everything you’ve got. Don’t let anyone else define your potential.
  2. Don’t focus on negative things, instead focus on positive things only: Don’t allow negative thoughts to steal your joy, because when you lose your joy, you lose the strength and courage to move forward. On your way up to success, it’s natural to sometimes feel that all the odds are stacked against you. Instead of giving life to these negative situations by focusing on them, do your best to focus on things that matter and the positive things. For every one minute you spend negating an event, you’ve lost 60 seconds of visualizing the ideal scenario of that event.
  3. Don’t bother about what society thinks of you and your dreams: Oftentimes, we seek validation from others to get the comfort to hear if what we are doing is right (rather acceptable) or not. It’s good to ask for feedback about what you do, but don’t let other people’s opinions stop you from actualizing your dreams.
  4. Don’t follow what’s popular: The biggest harm you can do to yourself is by doing what everyone else is doing. Don’t be discouraged when what you love isn’t popular or doesn’t conform to the rules of society. Be passionate about what you do even if it’s not popular with what others do.
  5. Don’t give excuses: Success comes to those who continue to push even when the going gets tough. Stop giving excuses and start acting.
  6. Don’t surround yourself with average people: Do you want to become one of those successful people? Get in the company of and associate with people that inspire you, people that challenge you to rise higher, and people that make you better and become that person for others.
  7. Don’t compare yourself to someone else: Believe it or not, we love to compare — from our clothes to our face, our salary to the size of our house, our smartphone to the car we drive. We often forget that our journey would always be different from our brother, neighbor, friend, or some random stranger. You have no idea what their journey is all about. Be comfortable with yours.
  8. Don’t say YES to things that don’t support your goals: A lot of times, we end up doing so many things that are of no good to us or our dreams. If you want to make a career in writing, are you reading enough? Are you writing enough to get the craft right? If yes, great! You are on the right track. If no, stop doing all those other things, because every time you say a yes to something, you are saying no to something else.
  9. Don’t stay stuck in the past nor dwell on the future: Pursue your goals with passion and love and do it now. Don’t think about past achievements, successes, or failures, or waste your time thinking about what your future would look like. Sometimes, the memories of the past and the expectations of the future are the biggest things that could hold you back and your success. Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence, and face your future without fear.
